Shopping Etsy: Thanksgiving table
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year!
First, there’s the turkey…and turkey sandwiches. And then there’s everything that goes with the turkey…and the turkey sandwiches.
A few things to add to the table to give your Turkey Day a little extra style:

1.) Yellow Soup Tureen, $25
2.) Gravy Boat, $14
3.) Set of 25 Squirrel Place Cards, $30
4.) Squirrel Salt & Pepper
5.) Owl Candle, $14
6.) Set of 6 Acorn & Oak Leaf Place Cards, $18
7.) Damask Table Runner, $15
8.) Set of 4 Acorn Boxes, $14
No passes
Turns out I’m allergic to my new soft contact lens solution, which presented itself with pink, irritated eyes.
“I was wondering why you were wearing Harry Potter glasses. I thought it might be his birthday,” said my lunch companion after viewing my retro, and slightly matronly, specs.
While there are plenty of hot women who rock the sexy secretary look (see below), there’s even a Pretty Girls with Nerdy Glasses appreciation society on Facebook and an accompanying Tumblr blog.

I, however, look more like that woman who used to be in the Old Navy ads.
If you want to try the nerdy girl look, here are some cool glasses from Etsy to try out.

1.) Vintage glasses, $95
2.) ’70s Reddish Brown Fade Frames, $15
3.) Vintage ’50s Aluminum Glasses, $25
4.) Flower Power glasses, $65
5.) Rochas Vintage Glasses, $30
6.) Cat Eye Glasses, $125
WARNING: If you’re like me, you could just end up looking like a nerd.
Shopping Etsy: Back-to-school
I went back to school this week, which meant getting dressed in something other than t-shirts and sandals…it also meant that some back-to-school items were in order.

2.) Amigurumi Apple, $12.50
3.) Faux Bois Eco-Folder, $2
4.) Anatomical Map, $175

Shopping Etsy: Alaska
I just got back from a trip to Alaska to see my sister-in-law and her family.
Not being particularly outdoorsy, I wasn’t expecting to really like it…but I LOVED the majestic beauty and adventure…despite the threat of death at every turn.
Possible deaths: Mud flats (you sink, the tide comes in, you drown), avalanche, moose trampling, drunk driving around dangerous curves, BEARS…
Anyway, some Etsy products that are reminiscent of my near-death Alaskan adventure.

1.) Formal Bear Original Linocut, $8
The threat of bears was ever-present. I might not have been so frightened if I thought one would be smoking a pipe and wearing a top hat.
2.) Large Moose Trophy Head, $52
I saw 2 babies and a mom in the wild, which nearly trampled my nephew. This cardboard variety won’t kill you.
3.) Birch Glow Watercolor, $75
Cold beauty. Bet that cold could kill you.
4.) Puffin Stickers, $3.99
I didn’t actually see a puffin, much to my parents’ chagrin. I think they are actually benign.
5.) Vintage Alaska Tablecloth, $18.50
Eat some carnage on this retro Alaska tablecloth.
6.) Organic Deep Conditioning Hair Mask Conditioner in Sun Ripened Raspberry Scent, $6
Wild raspberries are drop dead delicious.
7.) Mushroom Pocketbook, $32
If you eat an real life Amanita Muscaria, the result could be kidney failure. Not death, but carrying this cute wallet is probably safer.
8.) Vintage Salmon Pin, $10
Watched the running of the salmon, which could only kill you if you do so with a bear. Sadly, the salmon are the ones that end up dying after they lay their eggs.
Shopping Etsy: Let’s get physical!
I’ve started to (begrudgingly) go to the gym. It’s too damn hot to run outside…and I’m getting too damn old not to do something physical…thus, gym bound.

Shopping Etsy: Harry Potter
As this entry posts, I will hopefully be in a theater getting ready to view Harry Potter movie number six, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Even though my creepy crush on Daniel Radcliffe is long over, I am still giddy to see the teen wizards fight against evil.
Here are a few Etsy products inspired by the boy wizard:

Harry Potter would covet these slightly knobby black vintage frames.
2.) Coiled Snake Ring, $16.50

Shopping Etsy: Vintage glasses
Sadly and luckily, I didn’t find a lot of things I wanted to buy in New York.
I got a vintage dress at a used music store in Saratoga Springs, a scarf, and on the last day of my trip, some cool vintage eyeglass frames.
Fabulous Fanny’s, one of my favorite East Village spots, is home of great vintage clothing, jewelry…but the best selection of vintage eyewear.
I bought a pair or regular glasses…and some sunglasses.
So now, I have vintage frames on my mind. If you can’t make it to Fanny’s, here are some cool ones on Etsy:
